I see over in England, that a Conservative has defected to the Labour Party. Back here in Ireland, we occasionally hear that a member of one party has done same – example, Fianna Failer to Fine Gael, Fine Gaeler to Labour, Independent to Fianna Fail, and even at local level, there was one elected representative that just about transferred to every party and back again to independent before finishing up. He had more ideologies it seemed, than breakfasts in any one week!

I can understand why they do this. They want to stay elected and gain re-election. They see their current party heading towards Titanic size rocks – the party heading unavoidable towards them. The jumping member doesn’t want to go down with a sinking ship.

* I don’t get how they can jump ideology.

We have had left-wing people leave a left-wing party – to go join another left-wing party. Fair enough. They are still sticking to their fundamental core ideology faith or beliefs. However, like in England right now for example, how can a right-wing person suddenly abandon their core beliefs of believing in a more right-wing society, suddenly dump their complete ideology in a flash?

Again, I know WHY they do it – ultimate self-interest. I just don’t get HOW they can betray their own ideology long held and then go to the other side ideology – and then sometimes even back yet again!

Should be really trust such people that are willing to do an epic ideology betrayal? And good god, if they are willing to go that far out of self-interest, would they really have the interest of the public, ultimately in their heart as they will continue to PR espouse in order to gain election again? They will of course say that there’s been a difference of opinion on certain matters, local issues, etc. That’s fair – but such differences are based on individual policy decisions – not on wholescale ideology fundamentals.

It’s one thing to move from one party on the right to another party on the right – and same, left to left, on the other side – but to do such a fundamental ideology flip out of the sake of self-interest? Who are they really trying to fool? The public – or even themselves?

You are feel to disagree but when I see a person completely throwing their ideology out a window as they flip to an opposite ideology side, I don’t think they should be trusted ever again. – especially when it’s to further see their pockets lined more!
