The news yesterday that there has been a clear dramatic fall in people renewing their TV licences will come as no shock to many, including the usual political parties. A public blowback from recent revelations about RTE, the favoured few in it getting daft money and perks at taxpayer’s expense while fraud is allowed to be committed and still got away with, comes as no surprise at all. At core of all this, is a serious amount of outdated thinking. Firstly, TV viewing has changed. The once tradition of families all sitting around a TV set, rarely ever exists now, except on special occasions like a particular sports event or there’s important news to be learned.
.
Today, mum and dad could be watching RTE, BBC, etc, through the likes of iBox on a phone or tablet, even PC, while they work, rest, travel, etc. Daughter Mary in her room, could be watching a film on Netflix, Prime, Disney+, AppleTV, Paramount and more. Son Jason, could be catching up on the latest released episode of a Marvel superhero episode while he cleans his bike in the garage. Whole families no longer need to sit around a box or screen stuck in a room corner, tuned to a national station that also increasing perceived as being the voice of old government parties.
.
It galls a new generation of offspring that they must be pressganged, bullied by officials in office attire, that they must pay for something they don’t ever want or ever tune into. When we need milk, we go pay for it. When we need petrol, we go pay for it. When we need to go somewhere, we pay for the transport. In modern days, we far more pay for a wider range of things, all over the place – when we actually need them. We pay per use. We far more pay per view – even to a local cinema.
.
We don’t like being bullied by state officials and old thinking elected into paying for something we more feel, we don’t damn want in our lives and will never use. However, Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and other outdated parties say that in the 21st century, their outdated view that people of a nation must be bullied into paying for something they don’t want or ever use, must still persist. The political parties still think in past terms of how masses of people gain their news and watch old show repeats from a one room device.
.
A core truth is that the likes of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael desperately need RTE to continue existing. How else in big numbers (that has indeed also declined over years) can old party faces try to dose out their political propaganda in any one, face to camera or microphone effort? The old parties need the like of #RTE to still exist, so they can try mass selling themselves. The same parties therefore conclude that ‘right to choice’ must be ignored and run over, in order to force, bully, threaten people into paying for a service that will then be used to shove their political propaganda down the throats of a nation.
.
Pay per actual view? Pay per actual use?
.
Us old parties will tolerate that until we need a service to mass pitch our notions – then we need the masses to be forced into paying for something they don’t more want, so our thoughts might be better indoctrinated. It’s how we brainwash a nation. All at forced taxpayers expense. Lets make the buggers pay for it!
.
People might rejoice at the latest news that less are paying up towards an outdated TV licence practice but same people must acknowledge another reality. Two in fact. Firstly, the when the later arriving threatening letters arrive from TV licence inspectors, many will cave and again reluctantly pay. Secondly, the more that don’t pay, the faster Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in particular, will make damn sure to ram in their next pressgang operation. “Let’s make the buggers all pay by taking their money through a Revenue department. That way, we can steal their money direct from source, garnish their earnings before they even get them, so we can keep our needed propaganda station going!”
.
…Then we get to RTE, itself.
.
It’s already clear that the FF/FG mafia style setup need RTE – so they will not ensure there will be Garda fraud investigations. Those unwilling to turn up for Oireachtas questionings, will however, remarkably be available and able to speak in a court room – when there’s a chance they might be able to gain even more from RTE (yes, the taxpayer again). It’s #HowIrelandWorks for some time. Again, all allowed got away with, by the usual political mafia.
.
That same mafia, like the public, know RTE will have to be stripped down to its bare bones sooner or later. It’s become a mega monster that eats up public money – like the world’s now most expensive children’s hospital – that keeps eating away because the usual elected force taxpayers to again cough up with bugger all, real accountability. Again, no one greedy, will likely see the inside of a court room – unless it’s an already struggling to survive, pressganged taxpayer.
.
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael therefore, will somehow keep RTE going – if only so more of their propaganda can be churned out to dwindling numbers! They don’t wish to come down too hard on those they still need, executives and possible political connected or biased presenters – so slaps on the hand will be issued, more “There are lessons to be learned”, far less real accountability and the taxpayer now – or coming soon – will be again told they must pay for something they don’t want or in fact, hate with a passion.
.
However, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael don’t want to hear that. “SO PAY UP YA BUGGERS – OR WE WILL MAKE YOU!
.
It’s how Ireland works – as long as brainwashed people keep voting for the parties that continue to force extort in mafia style. Pay per view? Your Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael minister just nearly choked drinking their Dail coffee. Something else you have probably helped to pay for too.
