Well done to Michael Martin for making us laugh this week. Tánaiste Micheál Martin came out and stated compensating people for historic loss of health and welfare rights must be balanced against the Government’s obligation to protect taxpayers’ money. Later on the very same day, he then announced his government needs a new jet, telling citizens that his ministers can’t be left traveling in rickshaws.

The poor dears… They can’t be seen travelling with common folk. That’s just not on! Comedy gold in Ireland politics. Buckets of irony too. You couldn’t make it up – but it again appears Fianna Fáil certainly can? Older voters will remember Charlie Haughey going on about citizens having to ‘tighten their belts” – “We are living beyond our means” – while he was quiet burning through public money at a massive rate. Some things have not changed in Fianna Fáil?
