Home based Irish media are all failing to report it – #RTEcensored – but Ireland people involved in the fishing business, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are determined to destroy, are none too happy yet again. Can you really blame them? No. The Oireachtas has put out tender supply quotes for Panga, Hoki, Red Snapper and Boston Prawns – all which are caught outside of Ireland waters at some great distance in many cases. The winners of the public’s tax money, will gain €350,000 per annum for the quantities they can supply the most, at that price.
.
This has angered people who are once again seeing their own local fishing consistently destroyed by member antics of the two usual involved parties, each allowing more and more of Ireland fishing stock numbers to be reduced in favour of other states and their own fishing businesses from there. The exclusive fish list sought, if supplied at the right price, will be served up in the restaurants of the Oireachtas for the delectation of already well paid, perked and amassing pension TD’s. Public not allowed – unless invited in. A rarity.
.
For the record:
* Panga is found in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam.
* Hoki can be found off the New Zealand and Australia coastline.
* Red Snapper is imported all the way from America.
* Other items sought, are coming from Iceland and Norway.
.
Yes, the amount of air miles (thus hiked carbon count) that will be burned up in numbers, just so that our well paid TD’s can douse themselves more in luxury, matters little within Oireachtas walls? In fact, Irish based media are in no hurry to tell you that they are doing this at all. The mind boggles why? No. Not really.
.
It will be ultimately ironic – with a dash of double standards on a side plate – for Green Party TD’s that are keeping their mouths publicly shut about all this, while later on return to the Dail will be reopening them again, to eat all this exclusive fish!
.
The Ireland fishing industry – what’s left of it – are none too impressed.
* “What’s wrong with Irish fish or prawns?
* “Are they not good enough?
* “What about supporting our own businesses that already struggle?
.
The silence from government elected and those that serve them, is deafening. They are keeping their own mouths shut and heads down – till at least, they can return to their exclusive Oireachtas restaurants. Once back in there, they will again keep their heads down – over their expensive plates – but will be more willing to open their mouths for their elitist fare.
.
We can be sure they will thank the public, who will pay for it all, with every mouthful they swallow?
Carbon count and public funds, be damned! It’s more “Do as we say – not as we do!
