Later this year its likely that we are going to be asked to vote on a referendum as regarding the right to housing. The wording of the section our government wants to constitution insert, this has yet to be announced. It’s still a case of “wait and see”.
.
For the moment, that referendum is not what worries me. What worries me, is the quiet plans of our government elected who are determined to add another referendum question to be also voted on, on referendum day. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael want the public to vote in support of keeping “Irish Water” a public entity. At first glance with merit, this sounds like a good thing but look again and think about this.
.
What the two parties sneakily seek, is the actual insertion of a company into our constitution! So much to a degree, that later formed governments with their own desired plans, then CANNOT easily scrap “Irish Water” even if that company makes a complete balls of things in operation.
.
Instead of holding a referendum to ensure that Ireland’s water, piping systems and surrounding natural resources never fall into the hands of a privitisation agenda – THIS SHOULD BE WHAT A REFERENDUM MUST BE ABOUT – our two main parties want to underhand ensure that “Irish Water” cannot be dumped by future governments. Inserting “Irish Water” into our very constitution will massive ensure this. However, the mass public are not supposed to cop this.
.
Remember too, that at one long point during past times, Fianna Fáil in election attempt to win votes, came out and stated through Michael Martin on a national podium, that “Irish Water” must be sent packing. Yes, the party stated this when it saw that a risen, street walking, protesting nation physically showed their feelings regarding the Irish Water debacle. Now, in amazing hypocritical opposite action, Fianna Fáil along with the other cheek of the same backside, want to actually ensure that in the future, it will be extremely far harder to be rid of the dastardly “Irish Water” setup – by having it legally inserted (protected) into our very constitution.
.
You are not meant to remember the past or cop the coming possible implications of their flip-floping political actions!
.
You will be kept subject distracted (especially by elected and RTE) about protecting “Irish Water” from privitisation (which in itself, is a good thing) but you won’t be told about how inserting a company into our constitution, will ensure it cannot be got rid of easily. Some of us however, are still awake, watching, and still see what they are covertly up to. We will continue to oppose and expose their sneaky antics.
.
P.S. A referendum regarding rights to housing is welcome – but also let’s be clear here. The passing of such a referendum will not help build more social homes. It will be with it’s passing, an additional PR victory for FF and FG – who in the run up to a 2025 general election, will claim “See.. We are addressing the housing issue” – despite for over a decade and more, they having worked against the public but far more for vulture funds, property gamblers and greedy landlords, like themselves operating in “conflict of interest” Dail actions! …But you’re not supposed to greater cop or remember this too!
