Why Is Participatory Democracy important right now? Why does the governments of past and present parties fear it? The answer is quiet obvious.
.
In past constitutions of Ireland elements of Participatory Democracy were stated to be introduced. However, after 1922 when a new one was adopted, stripped out were such elements. One of the reasons for this was suspected around a matter called “Recall” – an element of Participatory Democracy.
.
Recall would have meant that – short version – with enough people coming together through a legal process already prior formulated in legislation, the people of Ireland would at any time of any year, have the power to pause, question or even cancel planned state or local government procedures or plans.
.
Recall would have meant that planned or already instigated mega pay rises could have been halted – or if they couldn’t even be halted, those that brought to them to bear, could be legally removed from their power position.
.
Recall would have meant that through an entire democratic process, national judged unfair, unbalanced, un-addressing and more, questionable law or agendas could be halted, paused and altered or even scrapped.
.
The existence of Recall would make devious in office, at least think twice or more, before plundering ahead with their own questionable ideas/plans. They greater fearing not just accountability via state officials but also it instigated by any member of the public within the nation. Think about that! True ‘power of the people’ stuff.
.
The process of Recall would have meant that, yes, a national judged (through a legal democratic procedure) government to be no longer representational of public desires or wants, a corrupt government taking a nation in a dangerous, self-adopted direction, etc, could be thrown out of state office. All done peacefully and legally at any stage.
.
You and the nation would not have to suffer a full five years of brutal policies and being bulled by 3% supported parties. You wouldn’t have to wait for another general election to roll around. You and the nation (with enough majority numbers) by democratic process, could instigate one at any time!
.
Are you starting to see why Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, Labour, the Green Party and more, are deliberate not pursuing Participatory Democracy that also encompasses Recall? They won’t even mention the subject in case a wider public becomes aware of it’s greater existence, usefulness and ability to be then started instigated by every adult citizen of the state.
.
It would be really “true democracy” in a state where democracy is only used when it’s convenient to parties trying to ram in their own self-adopted agendas. Agendas also often not put to the people at election times, not in their manifestos or media PR utterings.
.
Given that the state since it’s modern conception has rolled though hundreds of scandals, fiasco’s, bouts of greed, party law breaking, lies, vast amounts of unaccountability and more – and the often guilty are obviously not up for changing their ways – don’t you think it’s time to then change the very system they abuse and corrupt? I do. That’s why I seek Participatory Democracy (a UnitedPeople dot ie aim) and within it, Recall.
.
As we continue to roll forward with 70+ scandal and farces just since 2020 alone, it’s obvious except to the dliberate blinkered and deliberate deaf, that it’s clearly more needed today in Ireland than ever before. It’s #TimeForBetter.
.
It’s very obvious why the parties of old don’t want some fundamental changes. Their bank accounts and years long #Untouchable positions would not remain immune to justice being instigated. They can’t be having that – but the rest of us should be seeking it from future local/national election candidates. Will you?
